But w e decided to go ahead and add a few of our training tips on this page to assist you with the training process. A big component of the effectiveness of properly using a bark collar is the training involved. If you follow our training regiment, you’ll have your dog trained in just a few short weeks.

    Part 1: Introduction

When first introducing your dog to the bark collar it is important that you do no activate the anti-bark mechanism. It is recommended that you keep it inactivated for at least two days. This way, your dog will get accustomed to the collar and not associate it with something that is bad and start to fear it. The purpose of having a bark collar is to train the dog and not to punish it.

    DAY 1

  • It is important to first introduce the collar with something that is positive. Using positive reinforcement will help the dog not associate the collar as something to fear. For example, give the dog a treat every time you introduce the collar to him.
  • For the first couple times it is recommended that you keep the collar around the dog’s neck for approximately 2 to 3 hours.
  • Make sure the collar is fitted in the same manner that it will be once the anti-bark mechanism is activated.
  • After the collar has been on the dog for the recommended time, reward the dog with the treat you selected for positive reinforcement.
  • Repeat this process over the course of the day.
  • DAY 2

  • Repeat the same process from day, but instead of the 2 to 3 hour period, use a 5 to 6 hour period of introducing and reintroducing the collar.
  • DAY 3

  • The dog should be comfortable wearing the collar by the third day. If not, repeat the same procedure from day 2.
  • If the dog is fully comfortable with the collar, it is time to activate the anti-bark mechanism.

Part 2: Training with Bark Collars

Once the bark collar is activated it is imperative that the owner is with the dog for the first couple days.

It is also important that you select the correct environment with the least about of distractions. If the dog misinterprets the corrective response as a result of an outside source and not his barking, the bark collar will be ineffective.

Part 3: What to expect from the dog while training

Remember, bark collars do not harm the dog in anyway. The first couple times your dog receives correction it might seem that way. There is no reason to be alarmed; the dog is just startled and confused by the new sensation. As soon as your dog starts to make the association between barking and the correction, the barking will stop.
