How To Choose The Right Car Spark Plugs

Spark plug is a device inserted in the head of an internal-combustion engine cylinder that ignites the fuel mixture by means of an electric spark. The purpose of a car spark plug is to provide a place for an electric spark that is hot enough to ignite the air/fuel mixture inside the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine.

Choosing a new car spark plug is not that easy because there are dozens of choices available in the market today. Platinum, yttrium and iridium plugs are more expensive than traditional plugs but they provide much better coatings, wear resistance and maintain the gap longer. Less expensive car spark plug is not that advisable because of its short service life. It is best to stick with the types of plugs you rode in on. It is also better to ask the auto parts store for the manufacturer's recommended plug. If you are using the plug that the manufacturer recommended and it is fouling, you have other mechanical problems that need to be inspected. You need to check carburetion, timing and ignition.

There are different kinds of car spark plugs that you can purchase out there. Some have adjustable-plug gaps and others have a fixed gap. You need know these details when buying new car spark plugs. Check your owner's manual first to make sure that you are buying the correct gap.
