Tips On Staying Alert While Driving
Most of the injuries and car-related accidents are caused by drivers falling asleep while driving. Here are some tips to keep yourself awake and alert when you're behind the wheel:
- Turn on the radio and have a music that you like and sing along with it. If you are interacting with what you are hearing, you will stay alert and attentive.
- Don't withhold on sleep and don't drive long distances when you'd normally be asleep.
- Warm air will make you more sleepy so better get rid of it. When it is summer, turn on your air conditioner on high and if it is winter, roll down your window and let the cold air in.
- Avoid drinking alcohol and any medications that could make you drowsy when you need to drive.
- It is better to stop and walk for a while. Enjoy the fresh air. Talk to somebody nearby about the weather. Get your brain going and your senses more alert.
- Drive with someone who will talk to you and keeps you awake. He/she can be a switch driver that serves as substitute whenever you’re tired
- When driving long distance, take a lemon along. Poke a small hole in the lemon and have a little of it when you feel drowsy.
-
Eat and drink (not alcohol, of course) a lot constantly because if you keep your hands from moving to eat you’re being active. Sitting in a car seat doing nothing but driving is what everyone should do, but when you are fighting to stay awake, you need to be active!
